This work was created for the Mission Gallery as part of the Ephemeral Coast exhibition and explores the complexity and shifting nature of language surrounding Migration. A number of words commonly associated with Migration have been reinterpreted using photography, film and sound, liberating them from their malign connotations. Conversely, other words have been re-purposed and co-opted into the work.
Following Lars Von Trier’s, The Five Obstructions, I set myself a number of self-imposed constraints when making this work. This is a departure from my normal way of working and has resulted in an alternative iterative approach.
